Firefighters with the Osage Beach Fire Protection District were called to assist with a residential house fire on February 24 and saved several snakes from the residence, according to a news release published by the fire district.

“The interior team found fire in a bedroom and kitchen attic space, but were able to contain the fire in those areas. Fire crews successfully rescued several snakes from the residence without harming the family pets. No firefighters were bitten in the process,” Osage Beach Fire Protection wrote on their Facebook page. “Smoke and heat damage was found throughout the structure. No occupants or firefighters were injured during the incident.”

The fire was contained in a bedroom as well as the kitchen attic space. Loads of praise for the firefighters abounded on the fire district’s Facebook page.

Steve Schnare said: “Going into a burning building is no easy feat, but rescuing snakes? Now that’s true bravery!”

Bobbi Bruce had a different opinion: “Wow, Larry would have been there with you, he loved snakes but was afraid of spiders. Job well done, Blake and his fellow firefighters.”

And of course there was Steven Snow, who quipped: “They’ve got to get that thing out of the cold!”
